For more than a century, teak has remained the reference material for yacht decking. Its natural oils, dimensional stability, repairability and long-term ageing make it particularly suited to demanding marine applications when correctly selected and installed.

Tectona grandis

Built for long service

When correctly selected, engineered, installed and maintained, a solid teak deck can remain serviceable for decades and undergo targeted repairs throughout its life.

Selecting the timber is already half of the job.

A premium teak deck starts long before installation. Grain orientation, growth rate, density, moisture content, colour consistency and sawing method all influence how the deck will behave and age. We prioritise straight-grained, quarter-sawn boards selected for dimensional stability, coherent appearance and predictable weathering. Installation quality cannot compensate for unstable grain, inconsistent density, excessive sapwood or inadequate moisture condition.

Grade and cut come first.

Teak is not a single material but a range of grades. The highest marine grade — First European Quality — is drawn from the mature heartwood of the log: straight, consistent grain, an even colour, no knots and no sapwood. Lower grades tolerate waviness, small knots and margins of sapwood; they cost less and they age faster. The cut matters as much as the grade. Boards sawn on the quarter, perpendicular to the growth rings, hold the tight vertical grain and the dimensional stability a deck needs as it passes between sun and sea. We specify both for the deck and the life expected of it, not for the lowest cost.

Silver today. Golden tomorrow.

UV exposure naturally turns teak into an elegant silver-grey. This surface oxidation does not automatically indicate structural deterioration. Where sufficient thickness remains, controlled professional sanding removes the weathered fibres and restores a warmer, more uniform surface.

Teak asks for very little.

Teak does not require varnish or stain to perform as an exterior decking material. Gentle cleaning is generally sufficient between professional interventions. Pressure washing, hard brushing and unsuitable chemicals erode the softer grain and can significantly shorten the service life of the deck.

Why we only work with solid teak.

Synthetic decking can meet specific operational or budget requirements. Solid teak remains the established reference where natural appearance, comfort underfoot, repairability and long-term ageing are primary considerations.

Our teak is purchased through documented professional supply chains, and the available legality, origin and chain-of-custody information is reviewed according to the requirements of each project. Traceability is treated as part of the technical and commercial file.

Teak is purchased through established professional suppliers. Available origin, legality and chain-of-custody documentation is reviewed for the selected batch.

Project-specific documentation

The timber specification and supporting documents applicable to the project are identified before procurement is confirmed.

Material rejection

Timber may be rejected for unstable grain, visible sapwood, inconsistent colour, defects or insufficient documentation.

The most sustainable deck is the one you don't replace.

A correctly built teak deck is designed for long service. Individual planks, margins and caulking seams can often be repaired without replacing the entire surface. Controlled maintenance and timely local intervention remain the most responsible way to preserve the material.
